Carols in Kings Square - 'Light the World'

Members of the church and friends joined together on the 26th November in Kings Square, York, to sing carols as part of the Interfaith Week.  It was also an opportunity to share the church's Christmas campaign - 'Light the World' - which invites everyone to do 25 acts of kindness starting from the 1st December.

A TREEmendous success

400 trees were planted in Rawcliffe Country Park York by groups of youths of all faiths from the York community. Under the leadership of Mark Cosens of York Interfaith Group the tree planting event was a TREEmendous success. It was one of a number of activities in a week’s long celebration of events organised by York Interfaith Group.

Instructions were given by Ian Jakulis (operations leader for The Conservation Volunteers TCV) on how and where to plant the trees. It is in important time of the year as the trees must be planted before the frost beds in. Ian was overwhelmed by the support the local community had given to the project by turning up on such a cold wet morning.

Brandon Taylor from the York area said, “It’s TREEmendous to be able to come and do something for the community with so many other likeminded young people.”

Spirits were high as one group of young volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints included youths from as far afield as Norway and the USA.

The day was specifically designed for youth to volunteer and help in the community. Many families with young children attended and got stuck in.

Overall the day was enjoyed by all and was a great success. Over the coming months and years the people of York will be able to enjoy the beautiful trees planted in Rawcliffe Country Park.

From our missionaries

Many of the young adults choose to volunteer and serve full-time missions for the church.  The Scarborough Ward recently shared some experiences of missionaries from their area in a recent newsletter.  We thought others might enjoy these too.

Lauren Cockerill recently returned from serving in the London Mission:

Sisters Megan and Chloe Dolben share their thoughts about the Hong Kong mission.  Chloe has recently returned from spending 18-months in Hong Kong, and Megan is soon to also go to the Hong Kong mission and follow in her sisters footsteps:
